All too often, Business Process (BP) professionals complain about IT's ability to support them in delivering the performance optimizations they are expected to work out together. The problem seems to be rooted in IT's traditional positioning as supplier of infrastructure services and lack of business process insights. To improve the situation BP professionals and IT decision-makers must work together to implement change through three structural elements: 1) specialized centers of excellence (COE) in business process management (BPM) and business technology (BT) support; 2) demand management function and process to coordinate the COEs' activities enterprisewide; and 3) formalized governance to enable business executives' control over tech decisions. This presentation uses real-life examples to illustrate how BP professionals and IT executives can exploit these structural elements to increase IT's business process orientation.
